The meat from the sheep is used to make sausages which are served at the family’s bed and breakfast. Important Warning about commercially produced sheepskins:We've been learning some extremely unsettling information regarding the toxicity of commercial sheepskin. Most commercial sheepskin, if not all, and including sheepskin from New Zealand and Australia, are processed with highly toxic chemicals including arsenic, antimony and chromium. Toxic sheepskins could possibly be linked to SIDS. These products should not be used for babies or worn against the skin at all.

Natural sheepskin however has been used for centuries not only because it is soft and warm, but also because there are lots of health benefits. Sheepskins keep the skin warm and dry while decreasing friction and the soft feel on the skin can reduce stress and induce relaxation. People confined to a bed, wheelchair or people with reduced mobility may find many benefits from using a sheepskin. Studies show that sheepskins can give relief from arthritis, backaches or aid in the prevention of bedsores.
