Natural Sheepskins

Put a luxurious sheepskin between you and life's hard, cold sharp, edges! These cozy, 100% natural and organic, unshorn sheepskins have been produced without dangerous chemicals at a family farm in Kelowna BC, and are protected by a donkey named Rene! The meat from the sheep is used to make sausages which are served at the family’s bed and breakfast. Unlike commercially produced sheepskin (which are totally toxic for the land, and full of chromium -yikes!), these skins contain only natural goodness. Each skin has been individually hand-washed, tanned (using no harsh acids), and finished. A soft luxurious pad for your baby, wheelchair, yoga, by the fire, or wherever you might need a comfortable cushion.

Important Warning about commercially produced sheepskins:We've been learning some extremely unsettling information regarding the toxicity of commercial sheepskin. Most commercial sheepskin, if not all, and including sheepskin from New Zealand and Australia, are processed with highly toxic chemicals including arsenic, antimony and chromium. Toxic sheepskins could possibly be linked to SIDS. These products should not be used for babies or worn against the skin at all.

Natural sheepskin however has been used for centuries not only because it is soft and warm, but also because there are lots of health benefits. Sheepskins keep the skin warm and dry while decreasing friction and the soft feel on the skin can reduce stress and induce relaxation. People confined to a bed, wheelchair or people with reduced mobility may find many benefits from using a sheepskin. Studies show that sheepskins can give relief from arthritis, backaches or aid in the prevention of bedsores. The plush wool pile 'cushions' the body's pressure points to give relief and general well being. Natural sheepskins should be washed by hand, not in the machine. Please scroll down for washing instructions.

Washing Instructions

Most loose dirt can be gotten out by vacuuming, shaking or beating with a stick. It is better not to wash the product too often, as it is still a natural skin. If washing is desired after removing loose dirt:

  • Soak in cold water until saturated.
  • Wash in cold water, by hand with “Zero”non- detergent soap.
  • Dry naturally away from heat source (may take 2-3 days).
  • If needed, when skin is still damp, rub a thin coat of baby oil or other oil uniformly into skin with brush or fingertips
  • Wool side can be groomed with a dog comb or fingers.
